A Checkout Worth Checking Out
When a supermarket chain asked us to install new point-of-sale terminals, there was only one problem: The counters were never designed to have a touchscreen.
When a supermarket chain wanted to install new point-of-sale touchscreen terminals to their current checkouts, we noticed a big problem—a small space. A standard mounting solution have blown the client’s budget. Plus, they liked the stability and functionality of the proposed mount. So, we got creative and proposed a custom solution.
The HAT Design Works team designed two different mounts that could be retrofitted to the counters, one that bolted to the rail and one that could be mounted behind the scanner. With this design, cashiers could see and interact with both the point-of-sale touchscreen and customer at the same time, without having to constantly turn left or right.
This setup provided a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing mounting solution for the new point-of-sale technology. It also gave the supermarket’s customers a more personalized experience, while helping to minimize errors for the cashier.
Today, there are 1,500 mounts installed in about 150 stores. The client is very pleased with the cashiers and the customer experience that we helped them create.
